UPLA hoy conmemora a su santo patrón
La Universidad Peruana Los Andes, hoy le rinde un tributo de fe al Santo Patrón de la UPLA Fray Martín de Porres a través de una misa virtual, a cargo de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, y las Direcciones de las Escuelas Profesionales de Psicología: Dra. Maribel Ruiz Balvín y Obstetricia: Mg. Mildred Cóndor Privat.
La Misa en honor al Santo Patrón de la Universidad Peruana Los Andes “Fray Martín de Porres”, será transmitido vía Facebook, hoy viernes 27 de noviembre de 2020 desde el Sagrario de la Catedral de Huancayo, a horas 7:00 p.m. por el siguiente enlace:

San Martín de Porres es el santo patrón de la Universidad Peruana Los Andes, cada año una facultad le rinde tributo, donde la comunidad universitaria participa para fortalecer el gran valor de la solidaridad.

San Martín de Porres nació en Lima el 9 de diciembre de 1579. Fue hijo de Juan de Porres, caballero español de la Orden de Alcántara, y Ana Velázquez, una panameña que residía en Perú.

San Martín de Porres fue el primer santo mulato de América.

Perteneció a la orden de los Dominicos.

Se le conoce como el “Santo de la escoba” porque visualmente siempre se le representó con este elemento como símbolo de humildad.

Fue bautizado en la Iglesia de San Sebastián de Lima el 9 de diciembre de 1579.

Fue herborista, barbero y auxiliar práctico.

En 1606, al convertirse en fraile, profesó sus votos de pobreza, castidad y obediencia.

Se ofreció a ser vendido como esclavo al enterarse de que su convento atravesaba por una crisis financiera, pero sus superiores no lo permitieron.

Enseñaba la doctrina cristiana a negros e indios en las calles y haciendas cercanas en donde ejercía su vocación pastoral.

San Martín de Porres y el virrey Luis Jerónimo Fernández de Cabrera, fundaron el Asilo y Escuela de Santa cruz para ayudar a huérfanos, pobres y vagabundos.

Era vegetariano y dormía solo dos o tres horas al día.

Hablaba con los animales y tenía un especial don con la naturaleza.

Cuando algún enfermo se sentía grave solía escucharse la frase: “Que venga el santo hermano Martín”.

Murió el 3 de noviembre y sus restos reposan en el Altar de los Santos Peruanos, en la Basílica y Convento de Santo Domingo en Lima.

Cuando realizaba algún milagro de sanación decía: “Yo te curo, Dios te sana”.

Fue beatificado por el Papa Juan XXIII el 6 de mayo de 1962, nombrándolo “Santo Patrono de la Justicia Social”.
